If you are considering dental implants, you may be curious about the recovery process that is involved. Usually, the recovery time for dental implants is short. Placing an implant is a small surgical procedure.
Patients often only have to take over-the-counter medication to help with pain management. Patients can eat soft foods about an hour or so after the procedure. You will want to avoid hot foods and drinks. This will allow your mouth a better opportunity to heal properly.
General Discomforts & Symptoms
After the procedure, you may notice swelling of your gums or in your face, bruising of the skin and possibly gums, pain, and minor bleeding from the implant site. All of these symptoms are normal and can occur after the dental implant procedure.
If you notice excessive bleeding, contact your doctor. If your pain does not get better or even worsens after a week, you will want to give your doctor a call. Everyone’s experience with the recovery process is different. Most of the time, you can expect that the recovery time is less than 2 weeks. Patients often have their sutures removed within 2 weeks.
Bone Integration
A dental implant is placed within the bone in order to replace the root portion of your tooth. It can take multiple months for the osseointegration process to finish. This process refers to when the implant connects the bone.
Once this process has been completed, the dental implant can have a tooth attached. After that, you can begin chewing on the implant without any problems.
